The Mp3 Format Is Officially Dead, According To Its Creators
The popular music file format Mp3 is officially dead according to its creators. However, People still choose MP3 format over other music file format, but its license is being terminated.
Fraunhofer Insititute for Integrated Circuits which owns the patent for MP3 audio format and licenses it, has just announced that it will be no longer support the format.
The Creator believes that there are better ways to store music nowadays. The retirement of MP3 audio format will help those formats. Here’s what Fraunhofer Institute’s official statement said:
“On April 23, 2017, Technicolor’s mp3 licensing program for certain mp3 related patents and software of Technicolor and Fraunhofer IIS has been terminated.”
The institute says that nowadays well-known streaming, TV, or radio service providers are using ISO-MPEG codecs like AAC family or MPEG-H. however, people will continue to use MP3 as they don’t need a license and it will find a place in history books.
